Home Remedies to Prevent Tinnitus

Tinnitus is a disorder of the hearing system that affects millions of people worldwide. It is characterized by an intermittent or continuous buzzing or ringing in the ear. Other people suffering from tinnitus even complain of clicking, hissing, whooshing sounds, and roaring, screaming noises. Tinnitus is caused by many underlying conditions. Tinnitus can also be caused by a serious case of carotid artery aneurism, or it may be due to giant cell arteritis or vasculitis.

Home remedies to prevent tinnitus

boomThere is no specific treatment for most cases of tinnitus; some just disappear after some time. At other times, when the underlying condition causing tinnitus had been treated, tinnitus also gets treated. To lessen or prevent tinnitus, you should exercise, decrease salt intake, avoid tobacco, coffee and colas. You should also reduce anxiety, take adequate rest and relaxation and control your blood pressure. You should avoid exposure to very loud noises or high frequency sounds and avoid taking large amounts of aspirin products.
You should also protect your ear wherever you are, whether at work or at home. If necessary, wear earplugs or earmuffs to protect your ears from industrial or other loud noises. Reduce volumes of radios and television sets at home. Avoid taking blood pressure medications without a doctor’s prescription. When you are using a blow dryer or a lawn mower, use ear plugs.

Other home remedies include eating foods that control your blood pressure, like garlic. To repair damaged hearing nerves, eat nutritious protein-rich fruits and vegetables such as soybeans, beans and cereals as well as other legumes. To treat ear and nose infection that may be causing tinnitus, eat foods with high-calorie and high-protein and lots of fruits and vegetables that are rich in vitamin C.

Take care of your ear now and live a happy tinnitus-free life tomorrow. If you already have tinnitus, join the American Tinnitus Association (ATA) and learn more about lessening tinnitus symptoms and, eventually, its treatment.
